Brugmansias

Brugmansia Plants or Angel Trumpets (Delivery Apr to Sept 2013)

Tropical Brugmansia plants by mail order from JungleGardens, these beautiful plants originate from South America a shrubby tree like plant capable of achieving 30ft in the wild, the genus is quite confusing but basically falls into two groups, Aurea that includes aurea, suaveolens, versicolor and candida. The other group is under Arborea that appreciate cooler conditions and includes arborea, sanguinea, flava and vulcanicola. Brugmansia are large shrubs which take some light frosts (-5C) and if protected with straw or similar material can tolerate even lower if cut back to a foot or so high and allowed to regrow after winter has passed. Alternatively keep in a cold greenhouse over winter. From my own experience light pruning and not allowing the plants to become pot bound will encourage a more shrubby habit and the plant will flower earlier and more profusely. PLEASE NOTE ALL OF THE HYBRID BRUGMANSIAS ARE SCENTED the only ones not scented are sanguinea and volcanicola species.

Brugmansia Apricot Queen is a lovely Versicolor hybrid with long vertically hanging 18" apricot flowers. A fabulous plant with a delicate habit but massive flowers, we found that it responds well to heavy feeding.

Brugmansia Aurea Chloranth

Brugmansia Aurea Chloranth is a huge member of the Brugmansia family. The plant can reach 10ft with dozens of 12" apricot to Orange flowers hanging from its branches. Large hairy leaves up to 18" long and 12" wide make it a stately plant. It seems to do well outside in the summer revelling in our cool climate. If you have the space - go for it!

A spectacular double Candida hybrid Brugmansia with deep rose flowers. Brugmansia Bergkonigin is one of the deepest red/pinks I have seen in a Brugmansia hybrid. One of our favourites but rather a late flowering season.

It has completely individual white flower petals representing a handkerchief, hence the common name “Handkerchief Brugmansia” Brugmansia Culebra, a plant from Columbia is used by their shamens for both medicinal and ceremonial purposes.

Brugmansia Dark Rosetta has lovely large deep pink trumpet flowers held slightly at an angle. The colour of this Brugmansia is quite stunning and one of the the best pinks. Our stock plants often have 50 flowers or more in their main flush which is simply breath taking - a very floriferous variety but the foliage is not always pristine.

Brugmansia Double Chartreuse

Brugmansia Flowerdream is very popular every year and we usually sell out of this excellent, hybrid by mid season. The plant is more delicate than some though with slender growth and a bit slow to get established as a large plant.

A strong growing plant with 12" flowers but they damage easily in wet weather and Flowerdream or Sunbeam maybe a better option for wetter areas. Please remember that all Brugmansias do not like to become pot bound or dry atmospheres when they suffer from red spider mite and generally perform poorly.

A new variety from JungleSeeds this is a strong robust plant with soft dark green leaves and huge double pure white flowers. We think much superior to Knightii with 50% larger flowers. Some websites indicate that it may develop into multi tiers i.e. skirt in skirt but we have not seen that yet.

A stunning small 4ft to 12ft shrubby species Brugmansia from Peru and the Andes with 7" soft leaves and up to 1ft long non scented flowers that are shaded from yellow to bright orange at the mouth. It likes cool conditions and therefore ideally suited to planting outdoors during our relatively cool summers or flowering under glass autumn through to spring. Brugmansia Sanguinea will not flower if the temperature consistently goes above 21C.

Rare Species Brugmansia Lavender 1 litre plants

Brugmansia volcanicola is a rare mountain non scented species from South America closely related to Sanguinea. They prefer cooler moist conditions but unlike Sanguinea do flower on and off for most of the year. They tend to have more of a lax habit than hybrid Brugmansias needing some support. Flowers are smaller to about 15cm to 20cm but they are excellent for a manageable pot plant in a cool conservatory.
